Assistance to black bodies in health establishments: deconstructing prejudices and promoting an ethics of care
Translator: Diego Vinícius Brito dos Santos
Abstract
This article explores the differential treatment of black bodies in health systems, highlighting the influence of structural racism and gender bias. The differentiated service faced by black individuals is often rooted in stereotypes associated with skin color and ethnic origin, a situation that becomes even more complex when considering transgender people and transvestites. Through a narrative review of the literature, the study examines books and academic articles in order to identify discriminatory patterns and implicit prejudices present in health services. The results indicate that many forms of discrimination occur not through explicit intention, but through the social normalization of racism and gender prejudice. In this context, the promotion of humanistic and critical training for health professionals becomes essential to encourage awareness and equitable practices. The study concludes that overcoming these inequalities requires an ethics of care that values diversity and promotes respectful treatment for all patients, regardless of ethnic origin or gender identity.
